Art in Advertising

This is an ad for last year's NBA Playoffs. It features two of the leagues best players, Chris Paul of the New Orleans Hornets and Dwight Howard of the Orlando Magic. Goodby produced a few more commercials like this one featuring other NBA superstars. I see this ad and its entire campaign as art because of the unique style in which they filmed it and because of how perfectly in sync the actors' movements are. They got the timing of everything almost perfect, even down to the minute details like the eyes blinking in unison. Goodby, Silverstein & Partners.

This ad for Ray-Ban sunglasses uses the slogan "Never Hide" which is exactly what this ad is doing. This ad stands out more to me than most others that I have seen for apparel. The crazy colors and half real/half cartoon sides of this ad contribute a lot to it being art. It's really cool to see a product that I have purchased before being advertised for in a way like this. Cutwater.

This ad uses a creative image to get its point across instead of simply using a large amount of copy. The ad makes you feel that using FedEx shipping is like handing over the package to the recipient yourself. The image of the adult's and the child's hands delivering and receiving the toy robot, although being a simple visual to create, is very artistic and inventive. DDB.

This ad for Orbit Mist gum is unmistakably art. The man is wearing a suit filled with water and live goldfish and is standing in knee-deep water, showing how juicy and mouth-watering the gum is. Although the actor is a bit creepy looking, I really like this ad's overall artistic style. The agency used a very innovative look and feel in this ad in order to get the client's message across. They are selling the physical feeling accompanying the product rather than the actual gum itself. Energy BBDO.

In this ad for AT&T they used pennies of different ages and conditions laid flat to form an image of Big Ben and the London skyline. The ad not only uses the pennies to make an innovative and artistic picture, but also to get AT&T's main point across that you can call England for cheap. The picture doesn't just tell you what the company can do for you, it shows you as well. This ad uses an inventive approach that really makes it stand out and shine. McCann Erickson.
